About
Story Mode
|
| In
Story Mode, the player goes through a series of matches against opponents.
In between these matches, the story unfolds through cutscenes. Every
level is such that a new character is introduced, and must be defeated
to advance the story. Usually a character must be convinced to let
our heroes pass, or to help in some way, which is accomplished by
defeating them in a match. |
 |
Characters
|
|
Chicken
Little ("C.L.") is the main character of the story.
In Story Mode the player starts out as CL, and must also play as
her on the final level. The game begins when CL, while reading a
book under the shade of a tree, notices a horrible storm approaching
the kingdom. From there she must race against time to warn the King
before it's too late!
CL's
special move is EARTHQUAKE, and is a relection of her ground-breaking
determination.
|
 |
|
Henny
Penny is CL's mother, and the first person CL turns to for help.
Henny thinks CL's pulling her leg at first, but once defeated fires
up the station wagon and decides to ask Goosey for advice.
Henny's
special move is PEACE / PROTECTION, a reflection of her motherly
nature and retro culture.
|
 |
|
Goosey
Lucy is Henny and CL's next door neighbor. Henny and CL go
to her for help, and her advice is simple : go tell the king. However
she refuses to budge from her home, despite the approaching storms.
Once defeated she agrees to come along.
Goosey's
special move is SLOW FREEZE, a result of her coldened exterior
of a personality.
|
 |
|
Shaky
Snakey is an inept villain who tries to trap CL on the road
to the city. CL stuffs the defeated Snakey in a mailing tube so
he won't cause any more trouble. Snakey accompanies the heroes for
the remainder of the game, complaining constantly about his predicament...
except most of the time none of them can hear a word he's saying
(thank goodness!)
Snakey's
special move is TELEPORT because like, he has a cellphone.
You know how fancy those things are getting these days.
|
 |
|
Burly
Bunny is an auto-mechanic that is called to help when Henny's
station wagon breaks down on the way to the palace. The car can't
be fixed without towing it to the shop, leaving our heroes without
transportation. They ask Burly to take them to the King, but he's
not allowed to use the company car (his towtruck) for personal trips.
Once defeated, he agrees to bend the rules and give them a ride.
Burly's
special move is FIREBALL.
|
 |
|
Turkey
Lurkey is a local punk and artist. When our heroes arrive at
the King's palace, they find Turkey spraypainting graffiti on the
doors. He refuses to move out of the way until he's finished his
masterpiece. Once defeated, he moves out of the way.
Turkey's
special move is SPRAYPAINT, and trust me, he's had a lot
of practice.

 |
|
Our
heroes find the palace deserted, except for Foxy Loxy, who
sits in the king's throne. It appears that he has cooked the King,
and furthermore attempts to eat our heroes. Once defeated, he admits
that the King is alive and unharmed. Foxy escapes, and our heroes
pursue him.
Foxy's
special move is ROAR. Yea, the whole huff, puff, blow the
house down thing is from an entirely different fable, but it works.
|
 |
|
Foxy
is chased to the docks, where he steals a speedboat and escapes.
Burly's friend Ducky Lucky is on his boat nearby, but he's
currently taking on supplies. Once defeated he agrees to stop everything
and chase Foxy. The player faces a second match with Foxy out on
the water, during a boat chase.
Ducky's
special move is LUCK, because he doesn't look like he's had
much of it up to this point and we figured the poor fella deserves
a break.
|
 |
|
Our
heroes step onto an island Foxy was heading for, where they find
a volcano surrounded by a security wall. Foxy tells them the king
is being held in a building built into the volcano. When our heroes
try to enter however, they are met with resistance in the form of
the security robot BOLT.
Bolt's
special move is MISSILE SWARM.
|
 |
|
The
King is the true villain of the game. Inside his volcano lair
is a weather machine he constructed to create the storms with. The
royal treasury was empty, so he devised a money-making scheme. When
the storms destroy his kingdom, he will collect the insurance and
be able to retire to a tropical island somewhere. Unfortunately
since our heroes have discovered his plan, he has to destroy them.
The
King is the final level of the game, and is a special scenario.
The left half of the screen is the player's gameboard, and the right
half is the king inside his weather machine robot. The player has
to manage three Level 3 special moves to destroy the weather machine
and win the match.
The
King's special move is LIGHTNING. He has gadgets that allow
him to control the weather and create storms after all.
